A missed period is one of the most reliable first pregnancy signs symptoms

from:

There are quite a few first pregnancy signs and symptoms that can serve as a clue that you have become pregnant. These signs and symptoms include nausea, food craving, frequent urination, mood swings, fatigue and breast tenderness. Such signs and symptoms are not unique to pregnancy and actually may be caused by other factors. But one of the first pregnancy signs and symptoms that is a reliable pointer towards your possibility of being pregnant is the missed period, also known as amenorrhoea, or the absence of menstrual periods. If you have missed a period, you should watch for other first pregnancy signs symptoms.

Spotting is one of the most common first pregnancy signs or symptoms and may be mistaken for a period. Spotting is a result of implantation bleeding that occurs when the fertilized egg attaches to the uterus. This type of bleeding will be different from your normal period in that it will be lighter and shorter. Implantation bleeding usually occurs 10 to 14 days after fertilization and may happen once or continue over the course of a few days.

A good way to monitor for first pregnancy signs symptoms is to keep track of your menstrual cycle. Mark the first and last days of your periods on a calendar so that you can quickly and easily determine if you have missed a period. If you are trying to get pregnant or visiting a fertility doctor, monitoring your periods is a good way to keep your eye out for first pregnancy signs symptoms. If you often have irregular periods, you may not notice right away that you have skipped ovulation. For women with sporadic menstrual cycles, the first pregnancy signs symptoms they notice may include things other than a missed period such as tender breasts, nausea, mood swings, headaches or bloating.

Once you have determined that you have missed your period, it is time to take a home pregnancy test. Some women may miss a period due to reasons other than a pregnancy such as illness, stress, low body weight, hormonal imbalances, or discontinuing birth control. Following up a missed period with a pregnancy test will give you a definite answer to the question if you are experiencing first pregnancy signs symptoms Pregnancy test usually require that you have already missed a period before you take one. Remember, if you take a home pregnancy test too early then you may get a false result. After testing positive with a home pregnancy test, it is a good idea to make an appointment with a doctor as soon as possible.
